My biggest project

I didn’t realize that has been like a month since I wrote something about PM -at least for my own blog. So today I decided to write about something my biggest project.

A project consists -according to Wikipedia- of a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result. So my biggest project is, of course, my own life and the resulting product is myself -sound weird but true.

I consider myself a person who seek for happiness -who don’t?. So my project plan is based on the fact that I’m looking for the “Happy Alberto” and it should be the final result. Keeping the theory close to my thesis I’ve to take in mind the triple constraint.

  • Time. Unfortunately I do not know how much time I have -and I don’t want to. So I have to execute the most of my plan as fast as I can. It is a priority.
  • Scope. I must clearly set my objectives in order to optimize the plan and minimize the lost time. Unfortunately I’ve already lost a LOT of time with meaningless activities like: get drunk, get late -this one was nice and probably could be classified as motivation and team building activities ;-) , and watch useless TV. I know what I want today, but I’m not sure what I will want in five years, so I decided to use rolling wave planning to reduce the risk. I hope it works :-D My parents and probably yours did the same. I will illustrate it with an example:
  1. Have a healthy child. That was the first goal. They planned to have a child -or decided to have a child, or were forced to. So you and me appeared. Their first product was to have a healthy child -this project will run during the hole parents life -unless the project fails!
  2. Have an educated child. That was a subproject. Get my boy into the school or getting classes at home to increase his/her probabilities of having a good life. This will  run only until you finish the school/college or start paying your own studies.
  3. Be a grandparent. This is a really common objective in Latin America. But it could be also to Have a married son/daughter :-D
  • Resources (Cost). Obviously, I’m the only resource of this project, I’m the manager, I’m the producer and I will be the project’s result. The AMAZING THING IS that I’m partially assigned to my own project. I’m partially assigned for one reason, I cannot work, sleep, and share time with my family and friends, and at the same time pursue my personal goals -keep in mind those “motivation and team building activities” that I’ve mentioned before.

Here I presented few considerations to take in mind about how to handle my own biggest project.  Now the thing is, Should do I start it?
